Sound of Music tour

I presume you meant "Sound of Music" as in the film with Julie Andrews, filmed mostly in Salzburg.

We took the Greyline tour (of Salzburg). Whether it is worth doing has much to do with what the film meant to you.

Like any tours, there are good and bad about the tour. The tour let us get off at Hellbrunn palace where the gazebo got relocated, across the lake from the "back" side of the Von Trapp house, the cathedral where the wedding scene was filmed (quite ways out of the city), and a commission generating "rest" stop at St. Gilgen by Wolfgangsee. Other attractions were zipped by in a bus. The sites in the Salzburg itself were merely mentioned for us to visit on our own, which was just fine with us. The whole trip was about 4 hours, so we were in much hurry at each stop, but we expected that.

We got the ticket the day before the trip just by walking up to the Geryline ticket booth in downtown Salzburg.

This post and it's replies have just made my day. My daughter is getting ready to do a European backpacking tour and the main reason she is going to Austria/Switz/ area is because of the Sound of Music movie. Lastnight I spent over an hour looking for information about this tour in travel magazines because I had read about it years ago. I couldn't find anything about it until today just by accident. How exciting and I hope the tour is great. Thank you, Thank you.
