Sorrento Web Cam Addiction!
Hi, for the last few weeks I am become seriously addicted to this web cam:
www.slowtrav.com/italy
Then on the lefthand side of the page click on sorrento webcam and put in the name and password they provide for visitors.
It is in Sorrento at Via San Cesareo and Via Tasso and I have it set to renew every five seconds. I have watched many mini-dramas on the tiny square and leave it on my desktop and peek at it every once in a while.
Next week I will be there and will be waving at friends who will be watching.
Ah, what fun to be addicted to something like this!

Adding to the webcam experience:
When I was there last month I wrote some friends that I was going to be at the webcam (the internet cafe is the bldg on the left side of screen) so I ran outside to the square, spun around and ran head first into a British tourist! He was as surprised as I was and quickly got away from me. So I hopped around a little in front of the cam (what else is there to do when you're "on" ?) Then people started looking at me suspiciously so I sheepishly walked away AND no one saw me anyway at home, it took too long for them to get the emails.

Here's the Il Nido website. It seems to be stuck today, but the view is just amazing! The other day I watched until day became night with all the lights around the Bay of Naples, Vesuvious and Torre del Greco where my mother was born. I can hardly wait to be in Sorrento this summer. This helps the time pass.
Hope you had a great trip Sea Urchin. I also look at the slowtrav one - maybe I saw you!

Marianna - If you get the chance catch the shuttle to Il Nido for dinner. You can sit on the balcony and look at the view. The menu is on the website and the prices are cheap and the food is good. The web cam seems a little out of focus - not as good as it was before it went out for 2 months.

SeaUrchin, I will never forgive you for telling me about this web cam. It is oddly fascinating and addictive. I've been watching the light change and the day begin. I wonder if there is a website that lists all the live cams like this around the world?

Ha, Marilyn, welcome to the cult, er, club! I have started my friends and co-workers on this web cam addiction and it IS oddly amusing.
I have seen a global web site listing of web cams, I'll ask around, but do you really want to take on the world?!

My husband and I along with two children were in hotel Il Nido few weeks ago for Easter holidays just for one night. I woke up to this amazing sound in the morning that I have never heard before in my life. Thousands of birds were singing and the rosters were making their own sounds and it was so very lovely. Reading the previous massages just brought those memories back. The hotel was nice and we loved the free shuttle that hotel provided. can not wait to go back there.

Thanks for sharing this - it's great! How wonderful to be there now, albeit vicariously. I have to wait until September to see Sorrento again and am sorely looking forward to it. I will look out for this webcam when I am there.
