SeaUrchin: Ok, I'll try to do that! I'll be staying at the Hotel Loreley et Londres on Via Califano, near the water. Is Via San Cesareo & Via Tasso close by? (I was in Sorrento on a day-trip about 6 months ago and went shopping along the main street - can't remember the name). This time around I will be spending about 1 week there.

I'll be watching this webcam all day tomorrow at work - thanks for the distraction!

I have stayed at the Lorelei & Londres, just make sure you hold out for a view room! They don't guarantee view rooms but try and get there early or right at check out to get your best choice. They will move you during your stay to a better room if they are not avail. on your arrival. I have stayed there twice so far.

The web cam is in the older part of Sorrento. The alley you see on the side of the tobacco shop leads up to the main street one block up. To the right of the t. shop is a little cafe with outside seating. To the left (on our screens) of the t. shop is a tiny tea and coffee/dessert shop with seating outside too. The internet cafe is just below the web camera on the left, it is the newest i. cafe and inexpensive with new computers, I like it the best of the i.cafes in Sorrento.

Thanks for the locator tips! So you've stayed at the Loreley et Londres hotel - how did you like it?? I will make sure to ask for a view room. The last time I was in Sorrento, I took a boat there from Napoli and climbed up the stairs and then wound my way (walking) all the way up to the city center -- with a toddler -- whew! Is the Loreley near the boat dock (I have a hunch it is to the left of that grand hotel - forgetting name now). Any tips you could give me would be appreciated - grazie mille!

Hello kybourbon, the webcam actually has a slightly different view than it did 2 weeks ago. I know there was a lot of rain in the area so perhaps it threw the camera off a bit. It seems to be a current view right now so today I will watch until night again... and dream. I actually think I can smell the fragrance of the lemon trees...perhaps it's limoncello!

How's your daughter? We met her and her friends at the Boston Get Together.

SeaUrchin: Do you have an address, or street name, for the new Internet cafe in Sorrento? Grazie!

SeaUrchin -

Love the cam!!

Any suggestions for Capri to-do's? I'm sending my in-laws to get me some perfume in Anacapri (they'll be on a Med Cruise in May)...

So far, I told them:
Blue Grotto
Fanicular (sp?) to Capri Town / shopping
Villa St. Michelle

what am I forgetting? Any help is appreciated! Trish

The Blue Grotto can be a bit tricky depending on weather and crowds. It became very choppy the day we tried it. We waited for a long time for the boat to come to take you in - by the way, you have to pay an additional fee for the second boat, as I recall. Anyway, we waited and waited in choppy water and never got to go in because it would have been too dangerous. We were a bit disappointed, but we were glad to get back on land. There is a Green Grotto which I heard is less crowded and the water does not get as choppy as the Blue Grotto.

On the near right hand of our screen it is another shop but I forget what it sells.

The Lorelei is way above and to the side the boat dock, the best room is the corner room facing the dock and the town, with the wraparound porch, but some of the other rooms face straight out and have views that way to Mt. Ves. Don't let the young woman at the desk intimidate you, she is a hard nut to crack. We tried for a week to make her smile and she finally smiled when we checked out! Hmmmmm.

I would def. stay there again although the quality of the restaurant was not up to par last year when I ate lunch there, but it might have just been a bad day for them. My fish looked like road kill, assuming that a fish would be on the road in the first place.

On Capri, I really had fun going to the Blue Grotto, but I was with a group of girlfriends and we were in a giddy mood. You sort of have to let all tension flow away and just take it for what it is, an adventure, and not try and make sense of it. You climb into a small rowboat and we sat on the wet floor of it while we paid cash to the cute young man who took us inside then loudly sung off key to us. Hey, suspend disbelief and have fun!!

The internet cafe is on that corner of Via Tasso and San Cesareo. Via Tasso is the street that goes up to the main street The Corso.

SeaUrchin, I think the morning views would be best so will wait until last night tonight to view. I am also looking at the www.aminta.it live webcams over the Bay of Naples at night with all the lights. It's just beautiful.

Re: my previous question to you - is the Loreley(ei) Hotel close by the marina in terms of walking? Not sure how to get to Via Califano...thanks!

Huitres, will you have the baby stoller again? If so I would suggest catching a local cab at the docks, it won't be much to get to the Lorelei (ask before you get in, the drivers know already).

If not a cab, take a bus, make sure you are on the right one, the driver will let you know. That climb up to Corso is too much with a child in tow and with luggage, wow.

Marilyn - Beware! Some of the many webcams on the net are porn sites.

Marianna - My daughter is trying to survive MIT projects/finals. I will be heading to Cambridge May 20 to move her home for the summer. She has started dating the guy that went to the Boston GTG with her so I hope he was nice. I will be in Cambridge about 3 days and need to be in NYC area May 27 so she can go to a prom with a guy she met in Italy last summer. We have also been invited to Bangor Maine for a visit with some people we met in the Netherlands 4 years ago.

SeaUrchin, thanks for the reply. I was just trying to place the hotel's location in my head and didn't know if it was all the way up the hill, or closer down to the water. Yes, I will have the stroller (it's a light-weight one) with me. I may take a cab so I can my bearings initially, otherwise I am a big walker so don't mind the exercise. I love Italy for that reason! Can't wait to go now.......lucky you get to go back there next week. Buon viaggio!

Huitres, it is a nice walk once you get up to the P. Tasso. You just take via Correale to Via Califano and walk past the Plaza Lauro.

You can have the bus or the cab just take you to P. Lauro that would be fine and you can stroll from there, because sometimes there are traffic jams on Via Califano.

You are going to have a great time too!!
How old is your child? Be sure and go to Davide for gelato, it is the best.

Hi SeaUrchin: Thanks again, I am making a Word doc of info on the Lorelei for my travel file and I'm cutting/pasting your travel notes in it too.

My little one just turned 4...she has accompanied me to Italy 4 times during the past 2 years. She's been speaking Italian with me since she was 2 and understands it very well (additionally, she's enrolled in an Italian school for the last year and loves it). We are never mistaken for Americans when we are there, it's great! Of course, it helps to be a dark-haired brunette I think (both of us). I know Via Tasso if that is the street of all the shops lined up and down. I went into a shop that sold all Murano glass figures/objects and bought so many things from the woman owner that I know she will remember me when I am back there in a few months.

I absolutely loved the charm and ambiance of Sorrento - even over Positano (too touristy and crowded) and Amalfi (crowded, crowded!) that is why I made the decision to return to Sorrento (hey, that's a song isn't it?!) Thanks again!
