Sorrento food/farm visits
Greetings
We are staying in Sorrento for a week this summer...apartment near the cliffs. I'll not have a concierge as a resource, so I'd like to ask fodorites: do know of any local farms/factories that we could visit to see mozarella being made, wine produced, limoncello made, etc? We've gotten up at 3 in the morning before to help bakers bake (Foiano 2003) and love being part of local food craft. Not that interested in day-long gastronomic tours by bus...
Thanks. Can't wait to get there and try tripgirls restaurants, seem herculaneum, walk the peninsula, see capri, etc.

Can you travel as far as Paestum? If so you might check out the Selliano Agriturismo where they raise buffalo and make mozzarella. They run a cooking school and might be able to accommodate you on a day trip.

There are some and I have visited them up in the hills. I didn't keep the names but you can ask at a tourist info or you can approach a friendly cab driver, they know the area. Maybe ask a shopkeeper.
I know there are one or two posters here who have been to some too, maybe they will come online before you leave.

I would have loved to do the same while we were there, but with so many of us it was hard logisticially; we needed more time.
However, when planning our trip with my agent, one of the land company's we researched was the one below. This is not to suggest you go on their culinary outings, but it might give you some ideas of the type of activities available.
Not sure if this helps much, but even just a little I will be glad!

ekscrunchy: In fact, after our Sorrento week we are renting a car to get to Paestum...then on to a brief stay in Castellabate (the hilltown, not the beach town). So I'll search around for Selliano. Thanks

take a look at www.letore.com. It is not too far from Sorrento in Saint Agata sui due Golfi.
clink on the British flag for the English language website. the owner also speaks/understands a fair amount of English.
We ate easter diner there two years ago. it was wonderful as we were the only english speakers there- perhaps the only tourists as well.
