Sorrento-Capri-Amalfi How to coordinate trip
Hi all,
I have set aside 4-5 days to cover Sorrento, Capri, & Amalfi. Trouble is I can't decide is I should just base myself in Sorrento and do day trips to Capri and Amalfi or stay overnight in each of the areas. What's your suggestion on how to allocate my time? What's the best highlights for each of the areas (things to do and see, hotels Eur200-300, best food stops) and best routes to connect. Thks in advance for your time to answer my queries.

Hi L,
I think that most folks would prefer an overnight in Capri to a day trip.
You could ferry from Sorrento to Capri to Amalfi (via Positano for a short visit if you don't have much luggage).
You could also take the SITA bus to Positano for a day (if not much luggage) before taking the ferry to Capri.
You could take the bus from Sorrento to Amalfi, see the Amalfi Coast by bus, before taking the ferry to Capri.

I would split the nites between Sorrento and Capri. It is wonderful in the evenings and early mornings on Capri when there are not so many tourists. There is enough to do there to make your stay longer than just a day trip. From Sorrento you can visit Positno and Amalfi. It is easy to get to Sorrento by train then take a ferry to Capri. The hotel I like in Capri is La Mamela. La Gemma restaurant has a wonderful antipasta buffet. In Sorrento I stayed at Grand Hotel Riviera - it is on the cliffs not too far from the main part of town. Wonderful views, large rooms, very pleasant staff.

Can I do Positano and Amalfi Coast in a day? So my plan looks like this:
Day 1 -Arrive Sorrento (PM)- explore sorrento
Day 2 - Sorrento - Positano - Amalfi (should I spilt this up to a day each?)
Day 3 - Leave Sorrento for Capri by ferry. Arrive Capri (PM) explore
Day 4 - Capri & Anacapri - Blue Grotto
Either stay another night in capri or leave to return to london. Is there anything to do for another day?
Last Question- where is the best place to fly off to london from? Do I go back to Sorrento or ?? Any ideas pls. Thks so much for your advise.

Hi Lenore,
I have a little more time in the Amalfi area, but I plan to spend 2 nights on Capri. It seems there is a lot there that appeals to me. I received lots of good info in a previous post.
Do a search for "Capri Activities" and it should come up.

I suggest that you forego the "blue grotto" on Capri and visit the "green grotto" near Praiano between Amalfi and Positano.
Visiting the Blue Grotto is a real time waster and will eat up at least 4 hours. On the other hand, the "green grotto" is accessible right on the roadside and is not much different from the "blue grotto".
You can check out my website for more info about our experiences in Amalfi. Maybe it can help you. Here's the URL:
