Sorrento and Ischia hotel suggestions

After 4 nights in Rome, I will travel to Ischia for 3 nights... then to Sorrento as a base to tour Almalfi for 3 nights. Hotel recommedations in Sorrento would be greatly appreciated.

Plus, I can't decide which area to stay in Ischia, S.Angelo or Ischia Porto/Ponte. I was looking at Park Hotel Miramare and Hotel Mareblu... would love feedback on these plus any others. I'd like to stay under 150 Euro if possible.

mbtnyc,

You didn't exactly say when you were going and if the $150 was per person or for two or more. It also depends on what you want to do & see.

Seems like you have to choose either S.Angelo or Ischia Porto. Suggestion....why don't you try Forio, which is in between. This past June (medium season) we stayed at the Hotel Tritone in Forio for € 110/PP/halfboard and thoroughly enjoyed it. Rented a moped and did day trips to both S.Angelo and Ischia Ponte.

Forio is less crowded and has its own port with limited hydrofoil service. You might be able to connect there from Molo Beverello. Trintone made our connections for us through Ischia Porto and the ride to Forio was about 15 minutes.

It's a lovely hotel right on the beach:

Good luck and have a great trip!

We stayed at the hotel La Tonnarella in July and loved it. Great views, nice rooms. We checked out other hotels while there and were glad we picked it. http://www.latonnarella.it/

Ischia is where we are from. We try to get back every year.

Sant Angelo is a fabulous little walking only village. I agree with the previous poster about Forio. I wouldn't stay in Ischia Porto.(Porto and Ponte are two different villages) It's too busy and commercial. Ischia Ponte is a nice village, but if you want beaches and rest, Forio is not too quiet, and not too busy. Sant Angelo is a little more remote than Forio. As the previous poster said, you can take a hydrofoil directly there. Sant Angelo is definitely worth a visit.

Wherever you decide to go, be prepared to walk up and down steep hills. If you don't rent a car, you can take buses all over the island.

Sorry I can't help you with hotels, we stay with family.

Enjoy

I've highly recommended the Park Hotel Miramare previously on this message board. It should come up in a search, and of course feel free to ask if you'd like any more info!

We're traveling in Nov.-and Sorrento is going to be our base too. We chose Bellevue Syrene. It's a 4 star, and the views are spectacular! We booked an oceanview room, and breakfast buffet is included. I searched long and hard, and this hotel had lovely rooms and a view to die for...may be more than you want to spend though.

We stayed at the Hotel Il Nido in Sorrento. It's on a hill overlooking the city and has a wonderful view of Mt. Vesuvius and Naples at night. The downside is that you have to rely on their shuttle bus to get to and from town, but it runs very frequently. I think the room was about 100 Euro including breakfast. They also have a dining room with a terrace where we enjoyed a very nice dinner one night.

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE GREAT FEEDBACK!!! For those of you who asked, my trip is scheduled for early/mid October.

i had viewed previous posts before adding my own to the mix, and hadn't really seen a lot of suggestions for Forio ... most people mentioned Ischia Porto, Ischia Ponte, and S.Angelo. any other suggestions for charming hotels, preferably with a view, in Forio??? I will be traveling on my own and want to feel comfortable at the hotel at night.

thanks again for all of your help.

mbtnyc,

I've never stayed there, but I've read some good recommendations on this small, but first class hotel in Forio, the Hotel La Bagattella. It's very near the San Francesco beach, but very secluded and safe. Try this website:

http://www.labagattella.it/uk/home.html

Looks like it might be right up your alley. Has it's own restaurant, pool, bar, spa and is about € 100/night. The owners also partly own the Lauro shipping lines, including the Alilauro hydrofoil service from the mainland. I'm sure they can make all your arrangements for you.

Have a great trip!

Just returned from Italy and stayed at Grand Hotel Riviera on the seafront in Sorrento.

$190 Euro double with no sea view and breakfast but a VERY nice place. . . everyne trmendously helpful and brkfst great!

In Ischia I've stayed at the Bellevue Hotel in Iscchia Porto. It was great - regular and thermal pools, a healthy up-hill 4-6 block walk from the port.

Do take a scooter and explore and climb the volcano . . .

Enjoy . . .
