Sorento _Noisy or a gem

Have been told that sorento is a great place to base yourself to see pompeii but a lot of hotels in sorento are very noisy especially those on the via italia. does anyone have any experience of this. Any good tips about where to stay, someone reccommended the Eden hotel? many thanks

Last March, we spent 2 nights at Excelsior Vittoria in Sorrento. It's in the middle of town but secluded from the hustle and bustle (and there's a lot of hustle and bustle in Sorrento). We splurged on a balcony view room. Breathtaking view of the Bay of Naples and the room was very very quiet.

Sorrento is a large city with much less charm and beauty than other Amalfi Coast Towns, especially Positano. Not that close to Pompeii to stay there for that reason.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Sorrento. I the views of the Bay of Naples are beautiful and I would rather stay in Sorrento than Naples if there to visit Pompeii. The Excelsior is a very nice hotel. A budget hotel(how I afford to travel, with a beautiful view and very clean but unspetacular rooms is the Hotel Lorelei. It is just a couple of blocks away from the hustle and noise of the vespas. It is quite convenient to the train station and as I said the views are beautiful.

Aye, places on the Corso Italia can be a little noisy for the duration of the evening but then even something on Via Aranciata has that problem. Have you thought about something like the Sorrento Palace or, if your budget allows, the Capodimonte?
