is this your casa parmigiana?

Definitely not the place I was thinking of which was more like a pop-up shop than a real one.
I'll let you know when i get to Venice if the one i'm thinking of is still there.

I think that cheese shop, the pop-up looking one, is towards the end of the street that continues on after you cross the bridge, at the corner of Ruga Vecchia San G.
Ann, are you staying in the student accommodation on San Giorgio Maggiore? I have been tempted by the idea of their Palladian cloister...

Tarquin - that sounds more like it. it really was no more than a shack.
So far as I know we will be staying with private families arranged by the language school, so it could be anywhere in Venice. it would be nice to go and look at the cloister, though.

Auguri Capodanno! I just had the best evening with Monica Cesarato. Her good friend Ada, who was the former chef at Alla Vedova for about 40 years or so, made dinner for her and her husband this evening and they invited me along! It was marvelous, just marvelous food! I am sooo full right now despite our walk over to San Marco afterwards (along the Bacino, not in the square itself) to see the fireworks. What an evening. She may well be the best cook in Venice.
I just visited Punta della Dogana today - what a magnificent building it is. Wow. The installations there were quite interesting but the building was the star of the show. I would go again merely to see the building. Don't miss it on your next trip.
BUON ANNO! And do not forget to pronounce both Ns...

I agree the architecture is the Punta della Dogana's best point, found the art sometimes outrageous and sometimes extremely moving, loved the big arched windows which frames water life in Venice as its own counterpoint.
Thanks for a fabulous trip report on what sounds like a fabulous trip.

Falling somewhat behind but sadly my trip is ending, too.
Bassano del Grappa today with two new friends, and, am mostly packed and waking up in 5 hours to shower and finish packing to catch the water taxi...
More when I get home...
