Soller - Mallorca / Majorca

We have been invited to stay with friends who live in an apartment in Palma.

For 3 - 4 nights we would like to take the train and stay at a memorable three to four star hotel or guesthouse in Soller.

We would be very interested to receive your recommendations ?

Thank you.

There is always reason to spend more for something great.

Generally say 120-250 E.

I have looked at Salvia and even Bougainvilla at the budget end, but thought there may be a secret place that may be even better

Sorry Will

Wrote a post, pressed submit days ago but didn't seem to post.

We have been to Soller many times but never stayed. We normally stay on the east coast.

The old train trip is great, like a throwback to the 50s and a relaxing way to get around Mallorca as the track is raised above the fields and you get ver good views of the rural landscape.

We love Soller which is a middle market bustle small town with many good bars/restaurants. Even with the huge number of visitors it still has the feel of a Mallorquin town that is visited rather than a town for tourists. Port de Soller feels a little more like a town for tourists.

Personally I would opt for one of the small Finca style hotels just outside town. We have looked at some of the small boutique style town houses in the past but the town centre is just too busy for us.

Ps spotted you post about English Lakes.

We had a yacht on Windermere for years. The Punch Bowl / Drunken Duck have common ownership and are over marketed. They have high standards but I have never liked the flashy types that are attracted by the hype. My MIL lives down the road from The Pheasant, it is a legend and retains a huge amount of charm.I would choose it every time.

There is a lovely walk up the valley from Soller to Fornalutx.

Thank you belted_galloway. We greatly appreciate your comments on the subject of Soller. We are staying for a week with friends who have an apartment in Palma. Rather than stay in Palma and drive around each day, we thought we should all take 3 nights up in Soller.

As for The Lake District we came to the same conclusion about the so called Duck. We have decided to select Elm House at Pooley Bridge as a base for 3 nights.

We will head there from the Peak District where we have made the unusual choice of staying 2 nights at the Hilton Doubletree given its location as a base. 102 Quid for 2 nights in a Delux King Room was also a selling point, as we will get there late on the first day and leave very early to drive through the Dales on the third day enroute to Pooley Bridge.

We will walk Soller to Fornalutx. Thanks again.

You wont be disapointed with Elm House - my favourite B&B in the Lakes.
