Liz Taylor never wore caftans, only muu-muus (Have I spelt correctly?)

As I observe the sad "degringolade" (French term, to justify my posting on a European travel site) of this troll post, I am moved to ask:

Anyone else here a L. Taylor fan?

What a fascinating screen presence, not because of her beauty but because her characters were so incredibly ANGRY

(Cat on a hot tin roof; butterfield 8; suddenly last summer).

Surely the most consistently volcanic of personalities.

BTW: Heading to SW France in 2 weeks, nothing arranged yet re accommodation or car. But I know I won't be packing caftans.

Tedgale, arcane info, but there is no "s" in the Hawaiian alphabet; it's muumuu (can't get the macron or whatever it is on fodors).

I still like the idea of the men in Nehru jackets.

Leely, I didn't think you were laughing AT me, I said I was glad I made you laugh. I enjoy making people laugh~
tedgale honey, how are you??
Liz wore caftans when lolling on the terrace of their Acapulco home. With loads of bracelets up both arms and the same eyeliner she wore in Cleopatra lol.
Remember Raintree County? I loved Montgomery Cliff and they were in a couple of really good ( as in soap sudsy) movies together..

SW France, you lucky man! The weather will be wonderful and warm still and all that food and wine, sigh..did you read cigales trip report?
Or go watch Two For the Road ... I want to do that route that they take in the movie, I will be Audrey, the Yankee can be Albert

ahh Good ol' Liz. My favorite is The Taming of the Shrew. Maybe Mariam can take notes from that and throw a b**ch fit for the "boys" one night. I'm sure they would be THRILLED.

How did that film (TFTR) ever get the following it has? Too arch, too stagey.

Yes I love to watch Audrey Hepburn -- but the "couple" does not "work". Albert Finney was not empathetic at that age but was far more so as he got older and more clearly mortal.

(That's precisely the appeal I'm cultivating now)

Ah, SW France:

Flying to Toulouse Oct. 3 from Montreal. Air France had a seat sale (market rebuilder after nearly crashing in Toronto) and I booked impulsively from the car on a freeway one Friday afternoon...

Read cigale's excellent posts and had some advice from St Cirq and also from Anselm Adorne, who came by for a drink when in town 3 weeks ago

(A civilized Fodorite gentleman, whose Michelin road atlas I must return).

No-one seems to know that area "below" the Toulouse/ Bordeaux motorway. Nor can I find what of interest lies there, except perhaps from sheilaritchie, who has a house down there but whom I have not seen on these boards lately...

....proving once again, that when an OP starts out with "this was an innocent question", it ain't and when starting with
"I don't want to start a fight...", they do.

That is a characteristically kind gesture.

Have you not been on these forums much? I have been remiss myself; summer-from-Hell, workwise.

Some days starting 5:30 am, finishing 7 pm.

Europe beckons and I respond -- lest I otherwise slacken, sicken and fall inert in the traces.

Sexy attire will flatter your figure - highlight the good points and down play the flaws. Wear what makes you look flawless, and for the guys fabulous!

A wiggle in our walk, a giggle in your talk. The big bopper

Dear mariam, sexy is not a low neckline, a short skirt, alot of makeup, sexy is a quality you have or you may suggest by wearing fabrics like silk, satin. cashmere, the tactile and luxurious feel when one slightly, accidendly rubs up againstyou. It's when you listen to another and not present yopur boobs.

I heard from Sheila and she's at her lovely home near Tarbes. If you saw my last years trip report you saw that beautiful front door.

Elaine, you could not be a non sequitur.

We need slight irruptions (correct spelling, everyone: check it out) of inconsequence on these boards.

"a fag hag is not a drag queen... mariam is not a troll"

Thank you, Suze, I was aware of the former. But how do you know that much about Maid Mariam?

To make things clearer. A Fag Hag is a woman or girl that has alot of gay men friends. I was called that in High school because my best friend brother was gay and we liked and enjoyed his parties. A drag queen is a gay guy who dresss in womens'clothes. Though there are straight guys that do that for entertainment professionally.

Okay, thanks to all--and especially Mariam-- for this highly amusing thread. But one question before I leave the office today: why was Elaine's non sequitur a non sequitur? It didn't seem so to me.

Thank you for that clarification; I did know that. In my obviously limited "fag hag" experience, women who tend to hang around with mostly gay men tend also to be rather theatrical, with gaudy clothing and makeup. At least, it was thus in college and in NYC. Since then, I've not had much contact with that world--not by decision but due to geography. Either most gay men in middle Georgia are still closeted or there aren't any.

My question for Suze is, how do you know Mariam isn't a troll? Do you actually know her?

Leely: Oh dear let me rummage back 40 years to Mr Brown's Grade 10 Latin class:

Non sequitur is the third person singular of the passive verb -- they have a lot of those in Latin, even when the sense of the verb is active not passive.

The verb is sequor, sequi, secutus sum. The verb is To follow.

Non sequitur means literally It does not follow.

And it didn't. Her remark was interpolated, 15 minutes after posting,in quite a different exchange.

Hence: Non sequitur.

Others: Tell me if I got the verb wrong....
