This is so true, for tourists as well as residents ... We were in Paris on April 4 (just got home today). If I hadn’t watched CNN in the hotel, plus gotten some concerned emails from a couple of famly members who had been watching TV at home, I would never have known that anything unusual was happening. We were in the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 16th arrondissements, partly on foot and partly by Metro (running very smoothly), and never saw a single problem. We enjoyed fabulous views of the Eiffel Tower from the Chaillot Palace, and never even realized it was closed to visitors. It’s sad to think of people letting the TV fearmongers rule their lives.
