@ Flanneruk......is it possible to find out, what is the price of a round trip from Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh.....starting by around 9 am....and returning by around 5 pm.....for 2 adults and one child(11 yrs)? The lowest price I found was 118 British Pound for one way.....and for the return trip( off-peak) I found the same amount. So I am a bit confused. Is it 118 Brit Pound for the total round trip or double of that? And what is this off-peak time?
I am planning to use this route to have a glimpse of Bourton -on water, Burford...and may be Northleach. I found this link below, quite useful:

Not sure where you've been looking for fares, but www.thetrainline.com is your friend. I did a quick check and found a total off-peak day return fare for 2 x adults + 1 x child of £72.50, departing PAD at 09:21 and returning from MIM at 16:40. There are a myriad of different trains and prices (which confuse even locals like me who aren't frequent train users), so shopping around on the trainline website is a good way to start. You don't have to but the tickets from them BTW, as the same fares should be available at the station on the day of travel.

Thanks Gordon....well,I was referring to the Brit rail website
http://shop.britrail.com/#/ptp/point_to_point_tickets/
I was doing the exercise just to compare 2 or 3 point-to -point railway tickets vis-a-vis a Brit rail combo pass for 3 days. At the price, that you have mentioned, it seems buying point to point tickets for 2 or 3 journeys is the way to go.
Thanks once again..

I feel, in one day, one can also cover the Richmond/ Barnes/ Kingston & Hampton Court by train and bus....or may be a hired vehicle................the suburbs of London, is an interesting idea. May be one can do some boating also on the Thames.

Do not use britrai's site. It is mostly in the business of selling rail passes and is not a train company.
thetrainline is a better option. A return ticket is a round trip so you don't need to double that price. Very often a day return ticket (in other words a round trip on the same day) will cost the same or a tiny bit more than a one-way ticket as long as you don't travel during peak hours.
That is why leaving at Gordon's 9:21AM example could be a lot cheaper than leaving at 9AM (I haven't looked up your specific route but Gordon's #'s look about right to me)

www.nationalrail.co.uk is a similar site to www.thetrainline.com but don't charge the handling fee, that at least trainline used to - should have same fares so try both.
efficacy of a pass depends on amount of training you will do, whether you want flexibility or not as full fare ticket fares at times can be daunting and also how many folks you are traveling with and if kids under 16 - all kids under 16 get a free pass to match adults and the Party Pass if more than two adults travel together then the 3rd thru 9th passenger pays juast 50% of what the first two pay - plus Nov thru Feb travel passes are all about 20% off.
