Small hotel or B and B In Venezia

Hotel Galleria is a budget hotel in an EXCELLENT location – close to the Accademia Bridge. Can walk over the bridge and then you're in the San Marco district (Piazza San Marco, Doges Palace). This hotel is also by the Accademia vaporetto stop so that you can easily get up/down the Grand Canal. Vaporettos are the motorized boats (‘bus boats’, if you will) that are a primary form of transportation in Venice --- aside from foot power.

Two CAVEATS on this hotel --
1. Do NOT stay in their one single room --- price was right, only 100,000 lire however the room is teeny ! How small you ask? Stretch out both your arms and you can touch the walls on either side. This particular room does overlook the Grand Canal, which leads to caveat no. 2.
2. IF you're a light sleeper, you may not want one of the rooms that overlooks the Grand Canal. Yes, it's a room with a view. And a very interesting one, but because you're so close to the vaporetto stop, it can be noisy.

So I'd give a qualified recommendation for this hotel --- DEFINITELY stay in a double even if traveling solo. All together I think there's 10 or 11 rooms --- some have their own bathroom & a few share the bathroom on the hall. Hallway bathroom was clean & tidy. Again, not terribly spacious but adequate. It ain't fancy & you drag your luggage up a curved stairway, but it does have "character". The price for the double rooms ranges from 160,000 to 222,000 lire.

You can e-mail them directly at:
[email protected]

Hotel Galleria
Dorsoduro 878/a
30123 Venezia
tel 041 5232489
fax 041 5204172
web site: www.hotelgalleria.it
No credit cards accepted.

DIRECTIONS: From the train station, Venezia S.Lucia, or from the car terminal piazzale Roma, take Vaporetto no.82 going to the left and get off at the Accademia stop.

La Fenice et Des Artistes is pretty central. It's close enough to San Marco that you feel like you're in Venice, but far enough away that you don't get caught up in the madness. Ask to see the room. Doubles are all the same price, but some are large and bright, while others are small and dark.

We stayed here last fall, very quiet street near the train station:

ALBERGO S. LUCIA *
Calle Misericordia, 358
The hotel is located on a peaceful side street near the "zoo" area along Lista de Spagna, which runs from the train station. The rooms are all good sized, light and quiet, ensuring visitors a peaceful night's rest.
Breakfast can be served inside in a tiny breakfast room with four tables, or on the front patio, which is shielded from the street and pedestrians by an ivy covered fence bordered by flower beds.

double room ITL 190,000

We stayed at Hotel Airone, which is the only 2 star canal that is facing the grand canal. Its right across from the train station, very very very easy to find! We only paid 300,000 for 2 nights. Room is nice and big, the only I didnt like much was the bathroom, it was big...but the water pressure sucked. I would really recommen u find a hotel near the train station facing the canal. When we were there, we have noticed a few travelers walking in circles with their luggage for a long time to find there hotels. Look in www.venere.it for hotel airone.
