Agreed websurfing is less than impressive! The blue tooth headset I got does not work with it but does work with my PC. So if I keep the IPAQ HX2490 I will need to exchange it for a different one. I am getting the impression that it isn't quite there yet. For example I can't listen to the BBC on it.

I am in London next week and will take it with me to see what I think but I think it might be going back to the box shop when I get home.

A friend suggested the new Sony VAIO but that is 1.2lbs and bigger bucks. My laptop is only 2.3lbs so not conivinced that is the way to go.

Will report back after the road trip

Great links!I have a Axiom x51v and I bought it specifically for traveling so I could jump on wifi hotspots and email. The idea of also using it for calling is a wonderful idea.

But I'm new to Skype and internet calling for France to US. Is it easy to set up? I only see a headphone jack on the PDA and i have a headset (for my pc) but it has 2 plugs: mic, earphone. Do i need a special headset for the pda?

Another question is I call Spain frequently and I've heard of PhoneIn services of having a local spain number for cheaper rates. Do you know of anyone that provides this for Spain? Skype nor Yahoo provide it in Spain. Looking for cheapest way to call Spain mobile phones. pc to phone.

Thanks.

No have not- did not realise that that the user manual for the IPAQ would give information on zooiming in on an external app provided by Adobe

My daughter used Skype for the first time the other day to talk to a friend in Australia.

Today she bought a "USB internet telephone" to use with Skype. It enables you to talk without headphones or a microphone (it looks like a cell phone). Has anyone used one of these before? -- We haven't opened the package or tried it out yet.

i used skype to talk to my boyfriend from Istanbul and was amazed by the sound quality. I plugged my ipod headphones into my laptop and purchased a cheap mic for 7 lira in a Taksim music shop to plug in as well. This really makes free wireless a must for apartment and hotel stays. I plan on using skype from home now to talk to friends abroad.

Here I was extoling the virtues of pdas that I went out and bought a new one myself. Got the ppc 6700. It has built in wifi and also works on the Sprint network. Just getting started with it but I think I am gonna love it.
Does anybody know how I can use my CF GPS with it so I don't have to buy a new GPS?. It has mini usb and mini SD slots.

Update: my husband and I are back from our trip to Germany and Switzerland. Out of all the places we stayed, only 2 had wireless connection (for our laptop), but both of those times Skype worked wonderfully. The 1st hotel was the Burg Hotel in Rothenburg, Germany and the 2nd hotel was Hotel Gleschgarten in Grindelwald, Switzerland.

I just used Skype today to call Ireland multiple times today for 1.86 cents/minute. The reception was incredible and I didn't use a headphone microphone. My husband could hear my children talking while building with their legos from across the room. I'm planning to download the new release tonight.

jean253- just download skype onto the computer (go to the website and hit "download" for the version you need) and then sign in with your account.

I am on skype right now and love it! Only a few friends use it right now, but we get to have long conversations for free, which I love.

Skype and cordless phones...

Yes it works like a charm. A little company called VoSky sells this fantastic adapter that lets you hook into both your computer (with USB) and also to a regular phone line. Then you just attach any kind of phone you want. Want to use your regular line, just dial out. Want to dial using Skype, hit ## then speed-dial the number. The Vosky adapter costs about $40.

I also have an Xact USB telephone handset I got at WalMart for less than $20, if you don't want to lug around the cordless phone and vosky box.

Get SkypeIn for about $3 a month, you have a local phone number, whereever you are in the world. SkypeOut (calling any phone number) is free in North America until December and about 2-4 cents per minute everywhere else.

It works great and is lots cheaper than hotel phone charges.
