Skiing near Gerona

Hi Carol:
You could try the val de Nuria. The drive from Girona to Ribes de Freser is about 1 1/2 hours then you catch a charming little cogwheel train up to the resort itself at Nuria. There is a great hotel there as well as a hostel.

I have only ever been to Nuria in the summer so can't attest to the quality of the skiing but you are in a lovely area of the Pyrenees. I have seen photos however in the hotel lobby of winter skiing scenes and it looked like there was plenty of snow.
If you stay at the hotel they have a package that includes some meals and your train trip up and back. If you don't want to drive at all you can make your way to Barcelona by bus or rail then take the Renfe train to Ribes de Freser then the cogwheel train to the resort for an alternative method of transportation. The roads were good from Girona to Ribes (if you stick to the main highways) but I imagine they could be slick in spots if it's snowing due to the terrain.
It's probably small scale skiing here though due to limited lifts and kilometres of trails but the spot is glorious and distance from girona is practical for the 3 days you want to spend skiing.
You could also check into Vallter 2000 near Ripoll; Baqueira-Beret in the Val d'aran (which is much further but is considered one of Spain's best and biggest ski resorts); or La Molina near Puigcerda.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Lynn
