We went to Meribel for a week and tacked on a stay in Paris. Though not exactly close to Paris, the Alps are awesome and worth the trip.

http://www.alpineadventures.net/menu.html

I think any ski resort in the Alps is going to be at least 5 (or 6 or 7) hrs. by train from Paris. There might be some lesser known places (and certainly not the altitudes of the Alpine resorts) in the Vosges, which would be somewhat closer.
I think you should check out www.ifyouski.com; browse the French ski resorts and take it from there.
Some of the ski domaines are easier to reach from Geneva or Lyon.

Check on www.voyages-sncf.com the TGV schedules between Paris and Moutiers, and Bourg Saint Maurice (gateway to Tignes, Val d'Isere, Les Arcs). Once in these stations, buses will bring you to the resorts themselves, it's a 30-45 mn ride.
If you only want cross country skiing, it's quicker to go to the Jura mountains (Paris-Vallorbe, 2 1/2 hours).
