Hi bigboy,
I use Sixt a lot for my business trips and haven't had a problem in years. With AVIS, however, there have been some 'misunderstandings'...

Any news about your passport?

Hi Viennese, My Passport is on the way,
it should be here no later then Friday.
All I had to do is pay $157.00 more and
reapply through expedite service.

SIXT is a major auto rental company, comparable to Hertz or Avis, with headquarters in Germany and probably with some sort of corporate tie to Mercedes-Benz. I've used them several times and have always been pleased.

Thanx BO_JACK. I didn't know about the Mercedes ties with SIXT, I wanted to rent a Mercedes from them but DAMN, they wanted $1,345.00 plus $400.00 drop charge, Amsterdam to Munich. So I went for an Opel corsa 1.2 at $428.85 plus a $225.00 drop charge in the hopes, when we get to the rental counter they will be out of the cheapest car class and give me an upgrade to a better class for free. I read in this board to do that because it almost always works and if not, oh well.

We used Sixt in Ireland a few years ago and had no problems at ll.

Those drop charges really suck, don't they? ugh.

We rented from them a brand new car in Germany and took the car into Austria, where it broke down on a major holiday. They had a upgraded replacement car to us in about 15 min. Talk about service.

We just returned from a trip to Switzerland, Germany, and France. We used Sixt car rental for the first time and we were very pleased. We had used Hertz in the past and what was really refreshing was that when we returned the car, rather than going over the car with a fine tooth comb looking for every microscopic scratch they could find as Hertz had done, the people at Sixt were polite and gave the outside of the car a brief insepction as one might hope for when they report no damage. We will rent from them again.

I have used Sixt approximately 10 times. We had a problem in 2002, when I left the Frankfurt airport we discovered the air coniditioning did not work(should have checked it before leaving the rental station). I turned around in Morfelden, and went back to the rental return area. I did have to go the main desk again, but they upgraded me and were very polite and efficient. And we only lost about 1 hour of our vacation. Using them again in Sept. Good rates if you pre-book on the internet. Drop off charges in another city a bummer.
