Sites to see in Krakow
Hi,
Going to Krakow early next year for 5 nights and was hoping someone can give me the best places to see, eat and of course drink!
We've already pencilled in Auschwitz and the Wieliczka salt mines.
Cheers

Explore Wawel Castle in the middle of town. Be sure to see the crypts where all the heads of state of Poland dating back centuries are buried. The adjoining cathedral was the seat where John Paul was cardinal before becoming pope. Also the Sukenik (sp?) marketplace and the nearby tower where the Trumpeter of Krakow was killed by an arrow. Now would be a good time to go to the High Tatra Mountains. The lower slopes should be at peak of color change. Perhaps you will have time to make the short trip to Czenstochowa Monastery (sp?) where the Black Madonna is on display. Fascinating places!

Restaurants:
For a nice night out - Wierzynek, Rynek Glowny 15
www.wierzynek.com.pl/
Out of 5 countries, it was the best meal we had. There's alot of history with the place.
CK Browar 6-7 Podwak St

It's a brewery/restaurant. Go for lunch; they have a daily special for some ridiculous cheap price. Good beer, good food.
We drank in our hotel bar - Hotel Europejski. Make sure to have krupnik (if you haven't already) and I can't remember the name - cherry vodka.

We were there in June, en route from Warsaw taking in Czestokowa shrine en route ...Krakow is a wonderful destination. Cloth Hall and Old Square is the center of things. We took in the Jewish quarter (Kazimierz) with a glance at Schindler's factory, old cemetery. Interesting place to dine: Under the Angels (Pod Aniolami).
Yes, as to sides trips to Zakopane in Tatra Mnt. also to Auschwitz-Berkenau for an entirely different experience.
