One of my most memorable moments in Rome was sitting at one of the little cafes in to people watch. We had a go-go-go, exhausting trip, wanting to see all we could possibly pack in, and the downtime was much needed and enjoyed.

With 10 full days in Rome you should be able to hit all those highlights and more.
Some places to add for day trips might be Orvieto (to see a hill town) and Ostia Antica (the ruins of an ancient port city).
Largo Argentina was mentioned above. Do go to see the ruins from street level looking down, but also if you like cats, there is a cat sanctuary there you can visit (open during the day) and pet the kitties.
Rome is one of my favorite cities. I've been on two separate week long trips there in the last few years (both on my blog www.wired2theworld.com) and I'm going back for another 3 nights in October.

You might want to consider the Rome Pass (25€) which is good for three days transport and two free admissions (first two you enter). A good value use of the pass would be the Colosseum (Colosseum/Forum/Palantine counts as one entrance) and Capitoline, Borghese (reservations required by phone if using the pass), or one of the higher priced sites.

The Roma & Piu pass is unavailable currently, but if it becomes available before your trip, it is only 2€ more and is good for Tivoli including transport.

Use the Rick Steves audio guides. They are as informative as any tour guide and you can fo at your own pace. Not to mention that they're FREE!
