Site will be down 12-3a.m. EDT

Just a heads up---Fodor's, including the Forums, will be down later tonight from 12-3 a.m. EDT. We apologize for the disruption.

Best,
Katie

Hi Katie_H

I know I'm really showing my ignorance, but what exactly is EDT?
The only thing I am sure of - it bears no relation to the current time where I am!

Hi logos999

Now I'm even more confused!!!! What on earth is CEST??

You can't assume on this site that everyone communicating is based in your part of the world . . . right now I'm at 8am Wednesday, but I know for sure that most others aren't.

If I assume that CEST stands for (something)Eastern Standard Time, it still doesn't relate, because obviously this site isn't based in my country.

EDT = Eastern Daylight Time. It will be EST (Eastern Standard Time) after we "fall back" next month.

And EDT is 4 hours behind GMT (Greenwich Mean Time), which is the basis for time-keeping the world over, as I understand it.

Many thanks, grandmere - anchoring it to GMT is something that's understood world wide!!!

Perhaps, Katie_H, Fodors could use GMT as a reference point in future???

GMT is now more correctly known as UTC (coordinated universal time) just to confuse you further di
However I do agree that it would be more useful to use GMT/UTC for such announcements given the global nature of Fodors.

Thanks for the heads up-- agreed. I will make a note of the suggestion; it's a good one.

For the record, this year we don't "fall back" until November 2nd (a week later than usual).
