side trips from Turin
Hi all,
I am hoping you can help me wiht my question. My daughter (16) will be in Turin in February for 2 weeks as a exchange student. We are trying to figure out if she and couple of her friends can take some trips and how safe will it be. Any suggestions are appreciated.
PS She will be staying with the family of the student that we hosted in September, so we hope they will take her somewhere but wanted to have something planned.

Turin (Torino) is a charming city. Most French city in Italy/most Italian city in France, as they jokingly say. We were not there long enough to make it worthwhile to go on day trips from the city, other than to visit the Cathedral of Superga (recommended) on a mountain overlooking the city, but I'm sure others can recommend some great possibilities (Asti comes to mind). There is quite a bit to see in Torino itself, and the food is fabulous.

Hello Nat,

She has some great options.

VALLE D'AOSTA - Mont Blanc/Courmayeur and the Matterhorn/Cervinia are both within day-trip distance. February is ski season of course, - but these are fun places to visit for non-skiers too.

RIVIERA - Portofino/Santa Margherita, Camogli, Rapallo, Noli, Finale Ligure, Genova ... etc.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

We loved the Val de Aosta. Also, we drove from Lake Maggiore and it was very doable as a day trip, so it would be easy from Turin. We liked the Val de aosta enough that we went back the following year and stayed there. You might also consider the Cinque Terra. We also went back and stayed there, too. Lake Maggieore is also great! As far as safety, we had no problems.
