sicily travel questions

We are thinking of heading to Sicily in May/early June for my 30th birthday. We don't know much about the island, but have heard a bit about the Aeolian and Egadi Islands.

What are travel ideas? My husband and I are avide scuba divers, love the beach, fishing, good food, outdoor activities, etc. We aren't interested in museums and such, but wouldn't mind visiting a few ruins.

Should we rent a car for a few days to see the countryside and then find a nice beach resort? We will have about 6-7 full days to spend in Sicily.

Thanks for your help!

There are fourteen islands off Sicily: Vulcano, Lipari, Salina, Panarea, Stromboli, Alicudi and Filicudi (Eolie); Ustica; Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo (Egadi); Pantelleria; Linosa; Lampedusa. Some sound ideal for your interests. Most of the islands are too small for a car to be of any use. May and June are before the peak season, so you'll have no trouble finding accommodation wherever you choose to go.

Thanks, my husband has a coworker from Marettimo who suggested we visit Sicily. Thank I saw the special on Panera on Fine Living.

What are good web resources and books to research our options?

You may want to check out www.egadiweb.it

I found it useful when I was planning a daytrip to Favignana. The Zingaro National Reserve is also a beautiful spot to explore with beaches.
