Lynn - yes, I have looked up Tripadvisor. Thanks for your concern. As far as the rail research, my main dilemma is not about advanced purchases. It has to do with a particular train that shows up on bahn but not on voyages. So, I am currently working through that. Also, having to do with buying train tickets off of Trenitalia with an American credit card. Unfortunately, Rail Europe FAQ cannot help me with that either.

I had read on one (I don't know which one) of your other threads where you were asking how many days in advance you could purchase a ticket and also if you could print your tickets at home. If you look at the websites that I referred you to and call Rail Europe they can answer exactly the questions that you have asked (even the one about the particular train). Rail Europe is owned by French and Swiss rail systems so they would know a lot about French trains! I have used them for very specific questions and they are very helpful.
I also think that your question about Trenitalia has been answered (if not there are many past threads dealing with it). It just doesn't work with an American credit card. That website is probably one of the most frustrating for tourists to try to purchase from. Good luck.

Jill, I posted this on one of your other threads:
I had a similar problem when trying to book train travel in France this past May. When I looked at the SNCF schedule I could see the trains I wanted but then when I clicked the button to purchase the tickets, it only showed me much later trains at much cheaper prices. I knew that my earlier more expensive choices weren't sold out because my travel was about 90 days out. It seemed like it automatically defaulted to the cheapest tickets on the days I wanted to travel but yet I didn't see any place where that default was selected. The Bahn.de and the RailEurope websites did have the accurate train information, I just knew that I wanted to book directly on SNCF to take advantage of PREMS. I persevered and eventually I was successful but I think the trick is waiting until you're exactly 90 days from your travel date. Trenitalia, ah yes, another challenge but my main problem was that my email account kept blocking transactions. Eventually, I was successful in booking.
