Should I Include Guimaraes In A Trip To Porto?

My wife and I will be in Porto for a short 6 days in March. Our primary goal is culinary in nature, wine and food, and have guides lined up for several tours throughout the week. That said, we
have limited "free time" to explore the city of Porto itself. My question is, would we be remiss if we did not take a 1/2 day trip to Guimaraes? I have certainly read about the castle and surroundings
and know about the significance and architecture, etc. I just don't want to wish not taking it in if we do not go. Sort of like going to Rome and not seeing the Colessium or Athens and not the Parthenon.
Any thoughts? Thanks.

Not at all comparable - nice regional town with some neat sights but not something you would later think about missing. But, 6 days in Porto to me would be about three too many - so yes IMO going to Guimares or Braga or Coimbra may be more enjoyable than spending those days in a Porto that as a whole is a neat sight but lacks many 'must' sights.

Thank you for the reply. We are concentrating on wine and food (what we do as jobs) and will be out of the city of Porto at least 3 1/2 days. A bit of time to
relax and a bit of time to explore the city is what we are thinking. Given our timeline didn't want to miss Guimaraes if warranted. Your thoughts are pretty much want I was thinking.
