Should I cancel my trip?

How long should I wait for my travel documents, tickets, ect. for a trip I am taking out of the US to Turkey? The tour leaves in 3 weeks and I paid over a month ago, but have not received my documents or been told my flight information. I just received an e-mail confirmation of the payment. The company keeps telling me they will Fed Ex Overnight the documents, but they have not. When should documents for a trip like this typically arrive? I do not want to cancel or issue a chargeback too soon if this is normal. The company is nearly impossible to get a hold of and does not seem to answer calls or e-mails anymore… I am nervous. I checked the airline we were told we would be flying with and entered in our Skymiles number and no itineraries have been made, no tickets purchased using our information/ airline miles number. How long should I give them before I cancel?

Skydive,

If the company is no longer answering its phones or e mails, I would be very worried! How did you select this company? I assume it's a tour? Did you check them out before paying your $$?

Sorry I can't help with the delivery of ticket question, but another Fodorite will be able to.

buona fortuna!

I certainly understand your concern. I'd be very concerned too under those circumstances.

Who did you book through? Do they have a website. Look up their corporate office phone number (hopefully you'll find something listed) and ask to speak to a high level manager. You can try looking up the phone number on one of those yellow pages type website (superpages.com, etc). You can also try a reverse lookup by the phone number yo uhave (maybe it's listed under some other name). Check the website sethuman.com. It gives afvice on how to get a live operator if you are stuck in a web of voice messages.

Did you pay by charge card? Did the payment go through?

I hope it all works out for you.

I can't help you with your particular company, but I have taken a couple tours and received all documents a couple weeks before going, as I recall. Of course, I was buying my own plane ticket, so I got that myself as usual. I don't recall anyone lying to me, though, as they are to you (saying they will Fedex something overnight and then not doing it). I dealt with a very wellknown and reliable company, however, so I knew they were legit. I think I did that through a travel agent, also, which was pretty normal at that time for booking tours (and still is fairly common), so I could just bug him for questions (he was worthless, though).

I don't know what you mean about issuing a chargeback, since you said you already paid. I would assume if you cancel, there is some penalty at this point which was stated in the terms.

Thanks for the replies!

I paid with Discover Card so it is no problem filing a chargeback and getting my money back.

The company is a US company and I did check out their CST number, BBB and everything before we booked. I have been dealing with the owner so there is no one higher up I can deal with

My e-mail confirmation that I received right after I had paid said that they send a Fed Ex confirmation within 72 hours and out travel docs would arrive 60 days before the trip...

I really want to go on this trip, but maybe it is not meant to be. Our second choice for this trip is Egypt or just doing Turkey on our own, but it is going to be hard to pull off planning it in only 2 1/2 weeks!
