Should I Book a Hotel for Last Night In Rome?

We are a family of 4 concluding a tour of Italy with a couple of nights in Rome. We have a very early morning flight out of Rome at 06:45AM, so we will probably have to leave our Rome hotel around 04:00AM to make it to the airport at the recommended time. This means that our 2 teenage daughters will have to get up at 02:00AM to shower and get ready (don't ask me to explain why it takes so long -- those with teenage daughters can probably understand!). However, since it will be our last night enjoying Italy, I suspect that we will be out pretty late, possibly until midnight or so. Does it even make sense to book a hotel room for the last night? Any suggestions? What have others done?

I am thinking that it might make most sense to book 1 double room on the last night so that we have a place to store our luggage and also to take showers before the long flight home.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Definitely book at least a double. I've had several 7am flights and it's not fun. Allow about 30-40 min from the city center to FCO by taxi.

I was once a teenage girl so I know exactly why they need that much time.

We have had an early flight also. There were 6 of us and we all managed to get in showers. We had a taxi ride that approached 100MPH to the airport. Some people can take showers the night before etc. At that time of day there is no traffic so there is no problem with getting there quickly. I would get a room for the night. The price difference wouldn't be too much anyway.

Hi S,

I think this is a decision only you can make, but I can tell you that you should be AT FCO 3 hours prior to flight. Security and check in is notoriously and miserably slow, so factor that in to your decision.

The ticket counters don't open until about 40 min before it's time to board. All you will do is wait in line. I think 2 hours before your flight is plenty but obviously it's your call.
