To enlarge on this query: Is there a strict dress code pertaining to the wearing of shorts by men or women in the cities of Greece. I assume they would be proper in hiking instances or scrambling around the Acropolis or other similar historic sites.

The only problem with shorts anywhere in Europe is that sometimes churches deny you entry with bare legs or arms. I generally carry a cheap shawl with me if I am wearing shorts in hot weather. I also always wear short sleeve shirts if I am "churching". The shawl goes around my legs if it is needed.
Everyone wants to be comfortable when it is warm.

Mrs O has never been denied entry, or looked at askance, in any Greek church when wearing shorts.
Few, if any, Greek women ever wear shorts. They have better things to do with their lives than concern themselves with what foreigners wear.

On one of my trips to Italy we rented a villa and toured around with a 70 year old woman, British girlfriend of a friend. She wore shorts, mid-thigh length. Some of the looks she got from local women were priceless, some of the men her age ooogled her, she took it all in stride.
