My only thoughts would be to think how to speed up the transport elements and that would be with money.

Do all the moves with aircraft (might not actually help but at least you feel you are moving faster)
In Venice hire a water taxi to and from the airport (it costs more but at least you are moving) and chose a hotel that is close to a major waterway rather than further into the maze.

In Barcelona I'd catch the train into town and find accomodation by a station with few changes, similar in Paris. In Paris you can pre-book access to ceratin museums so at least you don't spend time queuing.

Hope this helps

Bilbo, I do not think museums are at the top of the list for Paris.

I think romance happens because of the people involved, not necessarily their location. Having traveled with a little one, an airport WITHOUT a little one can actually be very romantic.

Are you the type of couple that rolls with the punches and laughs about them later or the type that gets snippy and impatient when stressed? We fall into the first category if I'm well fed and the second category if I'm hungry!

Money also play a huge role, can you afford taxis instead of relying on public transportation? Can you buy museum passes that get you to the front of the line? Will your hotel rooms be comfortable and relaxing?

My advice: Buy the Mel to Paris, Barcelona to Mel tickets. Keep Venice in the back of your mind, lose that bit of your mind trying to parent 3 under 5, and have an amazing, romantic holiday in Paris and Barcelona!

Again, thanks so much for the time taken to respond.

I have managed to squeeze in another babysitting day (haha) so its not great but at least it's now less then 9 days on the ground.

May be that we get there and roll with the punches & see if we have/want to add another city we may well not.

Wisdom, definitely says 2 cities are more manageable. My hubby is leaning towards Barcelona rather than Venice but we'll see. Much, much, much to think about.

Thank you again!

Terrific - you'll be much happier I think.

But just one fly in the ointment - deciding at the last minute can be a problem in major destinations like Venice may mean settling for a not so nice hotel or paying more than you want.

As long as you can cancel for free, deciding last minute to skip a city isn't that bad of an idea.
