Short (half day) trip from Cannes?
I will be in Cannes for a few days in March and would like to do a brief trip to escape the hustle and bustle of Cannes for a few hours. I am looking for a very quiet small town or village that can be easily reached by public transportation from Cannes that would provide an escape and a place to walk around and maybe have a casual bite to eat in the evening.
Does such a place exist? I would appreciate any recommendations and tips on how to get there? Thank you in advance.

Aix-en-Provence is a short train ride away and provides for a nice relaxing day in a beautiful town where you can walk everywhere. There are many cafes, restaurants, shops, patisseries and beautiful squares to sit and have a cafe at. the cours mirabeau is known as one of the most beautiful streets in all of france. here you will find lots of cafes and brasseries, a monoprix of course and cute shops. Aix is my favorite city in all of france, so i obviously recommend it to anyone.

I would not call Aix a quiet small town or village.
Perhaps Lorgues, Cotignac, or Tourtour in the Var would fit the request - but I have no idea how to get there on public transportation.
St Paul would be quiet in the evening when the day trippers have all gone. Vence would be fine - but a little more crowded than the places in the Var.

Mougins is very close (not sure about transport, but there must be a bus). Not really big enough for half a day, but you can wander around the little streets before dinner in one of the many restaurants.
Otherwise Antibes, easily reached by train. Not sure if the Picasso Museum has opened again there.

I agree with Tulips. Mougins is the perfect village. It is very charming and pretty and I think only 10km from Cannes. Not sure about bus schedule but I do know there is service. It has some very good restaurants and cafes for that bite to eat in the evening. Ideal place to visit, you should look no further.
