In Venice, there's a FED EX office right off the Piazza San Marco on the side opposite the cathedral. Exiting the Piazza, take a left and it's about 3 doors down.
We didn't use it though, because it was going to cost us $200 to ship a mirror home. I think this was because it was oversized. Does anyone know the amount to ship smaller packages from Italy? It seems like it was a minimum $50 for any package three years ago.

Search for Postal Rates. There have been changes in methods..air versus surface. Bubble wrap, paper towels, TP and used clothing can all be used to pad breakables. Don't neglect plastic foam 'peanuts'. I load Zip Lock bags with them and stuff them into my luggage. Print address labels at home. Always include a label inside the package. Use clear plastic tape to cover the outside label. Most super markets offer used boxes. Corrugated paper board is also a good padding material. Buy a box knife and use it to re-work boxes. POs only sell mailing boxes. Packing materials can be bought at supermarkets.
