Shipping books Germany to USA

Hello,
If someone can help and point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. I need to ship some books from Berlin to Michigan (USA). The heaviest weight is about 45 pounds. I don't need them immediately so arrival of 1-2 months would be fine. If there is a courier that does a book or print rate that would be great. I'm looking for a cheap, but reliable service.

Secondly, I may need to ship household stuff back as well so a good, reliable yet relatively cheap courier for this as well.

Thank you in advance.

As you know, shipping books internationally is EXPENSIVE.

The best way to go is to use one of those door to door luggage delivery services like Send My Bag: https://www.sendmybag.com

I send packets to my doughter in NJ oftne. Using DHL, a 20kg packet is around 65E. Delivery time is approx. 2-4 weeks - slow but reliable. Try also UPS (more expensive in my experience) and Hermes.

I don't think Hermes ships to the US, or if they do it is a very recent thing.

If you are shipping household stuff back then send the books at the same time. You can probably get a deal on a part load with an international removal company, who will know how to pack things safely and get them through customs etc for you.
I can't recommend any companies but I am sure if you do a search online, both in English (for US companies) and in German you will find what you are looking for.

DHL charges 95.99 EUR for a packet up to 31.5kg. A packet up to 20kg costs 68.99 EUR.

The times when you got discounts for shipping books are long gone.

95.99€ is a very good deal. Can tracking and insurance be added?

Here is an overview of your options. http://www.enjoy-europe.com/hte/chap24/shipping.htm

You might want to consider taking the train to Amsterdam for a direct flight to Detroit, and using the air freight option.

Thank you everyone for these suggestions. I will definitely check them out as they all appear cheaper than the ones I found online.
