Baker St is convenient and close to Regents Park but after walking down the street every day for nearly 2 years you will not get me raving about it - it is not a very attractive street, nor does it have a good range of shops or quality pubs or restaurants. See an older thread on exactly this hotel. I would prefer Green Park area(maybe more expensive), South Kensington-Chelsea or Bayswater - also a bit grimy area, (with tons of crap hotels interspersed with OK ones and the vey odd extortionate one - Hempels) - but more buzz for restaurants etc. People recommend Dorset Sq hotel in area - definitely nicer location, so if you really want the area check that out. If you do check out Ali Baba for really cheap Egyptian restaurant in Ivor Place. Otherwise my advice is to go elsewhere.

Baker Street may not have good shops or restaurants on it, but they are more than plentifull within a short walk from the hotel.

Marylebone High Street is literally minutes away with plenty of nice shops and places to eat. St Christopher's Place, Selfridges and the rest of Oxford Street is less than 10 minutes away.

As for the hotel, I've had a drink in the bar area (which was fairly pleasant), but haven't stayed there so can't comment on the rooms. Location wise though it is very good - Marylebone is one of my favourite areas in London and with regard to transport links, particularly while the Central Line is down, proximity to Baker Street station is a definite advantage.

Landj,

Sorry I don't know that hotel either, but I wanted to second Jacqui's positive comments about the area. I stayed in that area last month and really liked it. Very convenient tube stop, Marylebone High St is great and not far away etc...Hope someone else has specifics on the hotel for you.

We ate at some good restaurants in the area, too, so if you do stay in that area and want some ideas, let me know.

I'm a fan of the neighbourhood, too. I used to live there, it's very convenient and, as Jacqui mentioned, Marylebone High Street is great. Another hotel option (where I have stayed) is the Holiday Inn on Welbeck St (it might be called Holiday Inn - Oxford Circus when you search for it). About 110 pounds per night. It's a bit characterless, but clean, very central (it's a bit further south and east of the Sherlock Holmes Hotel) - on a quiet street a few minutes walk from the department stores on Oxford St, Wigmore Hall (great concerts) and about 5-10 minutes from Soho. The neighbourhood has more character than nearby Baker St. Although the regular rooms are fine, the renovated rooms (e.g. 5th floor) are nicer. If you're a member of Holiday Inn's points program, they'll probably do this for you.

We've rented an apartment near Baker Street several times and think it's an OK place to be. Very close to Regent's Park for one thing, and the Baker St. Tube stop connects many lines, likewise lots of buses on Baker St. Sure Baker St. is not Life Styles of the Rich and Famous, but neither is it horrible. It's a busy commercial street, every city, every town everywhere has one. Just being so convenient to so many tube lines gives it a big plus I think.
You can walk to many areas as well and there are plenty or pubs, etc. all around the area. It's close to Marylebone Sta. too (if you want to take a day trip to Warwick CAstle you leave from Marylebone). Trust me, you can find lots worse places to stay.

We stayed there a couple years ago. It was associated with Hilton. The rooms were a little old and needed attention. Such as wallpaper slightly peeling from the baseboards. The breakfast was a full English spread and the staff at the counter were great. Especially a chap from India named Andrew. We liked the location and nearness of the tube. Now remember, this was a couple years back and I think I recall reading a thread that the hotel had been renovated. I don't think that Hilton is the current owner.
