Sherlock Holmes Hotel
Has anyone had any experience with the Sherlock Holmes Hotel in London? It is a Hilton property located on Baker St. (of course) near Regents Park. It doesn't seem to show up in any guide books. Is this a convenient home base for touring London? Any comments are appreciated.

David,
I can't comment on the hotel itself, but do have some comments regarding its location. The only sites of interest in close promixity to the hotel are Regent's Park, Park Crescent and Madame Tussaud's and the Planetarium., The location is ideal from the standpoint that five underground lines intersect at the Baker St. tube station. Baker Street itself is a heavily trafficked commercial shopping street. You might want to insure getting a room off the street side to lessen the chances of street noise. The Hilton hotel website lists the Sherlock Holmes but offers very little information regarding its amenities.

Hi, David,
The AA says it's a 3 star hotel - their ratings are usually fairly reliable. Look up the reference at http://www.theaa.co.uk/region9/76437.html
Prices not shown, though. Gulp.

We spent a week at the Sherlock Holmes in Spring of l998. It was a Hilton "associate" at that time. The hotel staff were fantastic, lots of assistance and suggestions. Full delicious hot English breakfast complete with mushroom, baked beans and baked tomatoes. The rooms were not up to Hilton standards, old, loose wallpaper--that sort of thing. We actually wrote to the Hilton about the hotel and were told they were working on improvements. One of the most helpful staff was a fellow named Phillip who is from India. If you stay there, please post your experience.

M & J,

We just returned from England a few days ago and did stay at the Sherlock Holmes. Since I wasn't sure what to expect we were pleasantly surprised. I guess the renovations you referred to in an earlier post were completed. We had two rooms that were both spacious by most standards, nicely decorated and had many amenities included in the room (coffee maker, iron, etc.). The staff was very helpful and the location was very convenient being only a block away from the Baker Street station where many of the Underground lines cross. Baker Street is fairly busy, but our rooms faced away from the street so noise was not a problem.
We also appreciated its location by Baker Street tube.
