My wife and I will be in Dubrovnik June 14, 15 & 16. We were wondering if anyone else was going to be there during that time who may wish to share the cost of a driver/guide for a day trip to Montenegro. We are not fond of tour buses and renting a car for only one day seems extreme. The cost per couple would be 115 Euro. If interested please email us at [email protected]

You can rent a car for the day @ €60, not extreme really.

There are more than 600 licensed tour guides in the Dubrovnik area. Some are affliated with large companies and some are independant. Many are very good and there are some who are not. A taxi driver usually does not have a guide license, however many are very good at driving down to Montenegro and can give you many details and stories on this trip. It's a chance you take and there's no way to tell you who is good and who isn't.
Many of the licensed tour guides are only licensed because they had the very large fee to take the test. There are many guides who are so much better and they don't have the very large fee to take the test. This test is much like the California real estate exam, something you need to pass but will never use. Finding a guide who cares about the guest and wants to do the best possible job is possible, but you may not find that perfect guide. It's a difficult tast to find someone who really cares about the area and knows the history and the antidotes. Most guides do not have the time to maintain a website, it's still very pricey project here. Just keep looking and you may find the perfect guide, one who can share the essence of Dubrovnik.

We had a similar problem when we planned visit to Dubrovnik because we had to realize that driver/guide in Europe is NOT licensed tour guide, he`s just a driver so he can`t guide you through historical sites, only licensed tour guides can.We noticed some licensed tour guides during a walking guided tour and we asked our guide Denis about the exam.He told us that he had to pass 10 different exams before he obtained a guide license and entire process lasted more than 6 months.
We DID find the perfect guide in Dubrovnik for us and he knows the history of Dubrovnik very,very good and he met all our needs.
