I am making the last of the plans for an upcoming trip to Spain in September. I am considering spending 1 1/2 days in Sevilla on the way to Madrid. My other option is to go straight to Madrid and try to work it in for a day trip or two. At this point in the trip we have 5 or 6 days prior to our departure from Madrid back to the USA. My first thought is to stop on the way to Madrid. We are driving from Granada to Sevilla. What are your thoughts?

Go for the visit to Sevilla. Visit to the Plaza Espana (too dark in my room so I can't find the accents). Cathederal is important, Jewish quarters, and a nice lunch would fit into that short trip. It's still in Sevilla in September.

Besides the overall architecture, IMO there are TWO "main" sites in Seville: the cathedral and the Alcazar and you could do both of those in one day.

Are you going to be using the car while you are IN Madrid?

If not, ditch it in Seville and take the AVE to Madrid.

Yes, Yes, Yes! Any time you can spend in Seville is worth it. We had only 2 days and WILL go back. A wonderful city. Walk around as much as possible! You can also eat very well!

We will be driving from Granada to Sevilla. I am debating if I should keep the car until we depart by train for Madrid. Will it be easier to get around with the car or without?

do yourself a favor and walk sevilla or at most take a taxi here and there.
parking and narrow streets will make harrowing waste of time and money.
