Time to fly home today. Just Airports picked us up on time and we were ready to sit back and relax. Our driver however seemed frustrated by the traffic and took side street after side street trying to avoid it. When we got out of the car Mr. Wonderful said he wondered where the driver was taking us but it always seemed to be generally west. We checked our bags then proceeded to security. I got sniffed by a dog and an extra bit of wanding but it didn’t take long and we were at the gate. We had a blessedly uneventful and boring flight. It had been a wonderful trip but we were glad to be home.
Epilogue
On my first trip to Europe in 1982 my sister Nancy suggested I try to look for Ruby Daley. My mother and I only had 2 and a half days in London as part of our guided European tour and I had no idea where to start. After we returned home from this latest trip Ruby’s daughter and I have begun emailing one another. I learned from her that Ruby died in 1980, the same year as my father and also from a heart attack. She was already gone by the time of my first visit.

What a wonderful trip report. I am so glad you did that for your Dad and for Ruby's daughter. We have retraced my Dad's journey in France and Belgium but want to do North Africa and Sicily next. They were a brave group of men and women.
I love being sniffed by the dogs. Best piece of security at the airports.

oh yes, the "back doubles" beloved of London cabbies. Although your driver was not a driving a black cab, it seems like s/he had the "knowledge" - the encyclopaedic knowledge that black cab drivers have to have of every street in London before they get their licence. [which does not apply to mini-cab and Uber drivers BTW]
so glad you got home safely, and with such wonderful memories.
