Sending Mail From Italy

Sorry for the previous post--misspelling!
Does anyone know about how long it would take a letter to get from Italy to the east coast of the US?
Thanks.

Hi k,

Airmail or regular?

If the latter, 6 - 8 weeks.

If the former, 3 days to 8 weeks.

Hmmm - depends on your religion. I mailed postcards from the Vatican one time and most people had them within a week or two except for my aunt. Her's arrived 2 months later and she said it was because she is Baptist.

Klapenta, I also posted on your other thread. I have lots of friends in Italy and receive mail from them constantly. The longest that any mail has taken (from Italy to the westcoast of the US) is 10 days. I am looking at a postcard I received in April. It was mailed from a very small town, Regello, which is southeast of Florence. The postage on it is .70euro. It arrived here nine days after the postmark.

I know many are saying it takes weeks. That has not been my experience. Years ago it was true but not in the last say 6 years.

Now, one thing my friends do is to take the mail to the post office. Perhaps people that have had mail take weeks to arrive from Italy had handed it to the desk clerk at their hotel? I really do not know. All I know is my experience for what it is worth.

If I were you I would mail whatever cards etc. you want to send as soon as you can after you arrive in Italy. And mail them from the post office, airmail. At least that way you have done the best that you can. And good luck! P.S. And have a great trip!!!

1991 we visited Alberobello. Bought a dozen postcards with photos of the trullis. Took them to the post office for stamps, the helpful clerk took the cards, said he would be glad to affix the stamps, just give him the money and we could be on our way. Not one card ever got to the States.

I didn't realize that was happening as recently as 1991 or outside the cities, but I heard that there was a scandal in the Italian P.O. involving postal workers who stole mail and sold it as scrap to manufactureres who used paper pulp. I don't remember where I heard this--I think from people in Italy.

I am Italian and let me tell you something about Italy ,they are the biggest losers when it come to basically everything. They are very slow , they probably recieve the mail put it aside and wait whenever they feel like to sent it . My father is waiting for is pension from italy it has been 7 years still waiting , simply because these lazy italian losers dont know how to work with anything .
