What kind of quantities are you talking about? I've brought back a 12-bottle case with no problem. If you're talking big volume, then you are likely looking at paying duty at customs upon entry. As for shipping it unaccompanied, there may be state laws to consider along with federal.

Here's a recent previous thread (on which I cite, in turn, yet an older thread).

Carry it home with you. Few if any problems, as long as it's a quantity you can physically carry.

Best wishes,

Rex

The only problem you would have would be with state laws. Since the end of Prohibition, alcohol has been controlled by the States so there are 50 different rules. US Customs enforces the rules of the state where you clear Customs. Some states do not allow import of any alcoholic beverages. Actually, some cities and counties have their own say in the matter. Check with your Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission, or whatever they call that goony squad in your state.

Only licensed importers can have wine shipped to the U.S. It's not an easy process; so best to bring back what you can and forget about shipping.

Perhaps things have changed, but a year and a half ago we shipped a case of wine from France without any problem. We purchased the wine at a wine shop in St Emilion. I don't recall the cost of shipping, but it wasn't cheap. We also had to pay some sort of tax to the Port Authority in NY once it arrived in the US (we live in Seattle). It was all easy to do.

Hi n,

It is quite easy.

It is also expensive and you have no control over the condition of the wine when it arrives.

It's a lot easier to bring back 6 bottles.
