Has anyone recently used Nordic Visitor, Guide to Iceland or Evancous self drive tours in Iceland/

I'm sure you realize that you can visit Iceland without a tour....

Of course. But these companies set one up with car, hotels and suggested itinerary so it's NOT really a tour.

Did they deliver as advertised?

yes - everything was fine.

Sadly I couldn't say the same for one lot of accommodation that I didn't book through them which was horrible. I think you should be fine with hotels and guesthouses but we stayed in a couple of holiday chalets; one was just as advertised but the other was a complete dump and that was the one we booked independently.

fair enough. How long is your trip going to be? are you doing a "round Iceland" trip or something else?

14 days round Iceland. Just have to make up my mind i want to do this!!

what time of year are you planning on going, John? we had 11 days or so some years ago and we loved it, though we didn't get all the way round and I still regret it.

if you click on my screen name you can read my trip report, but there are several others available. Basically we loved most of what we did and still laugh about the rest of it.

IF we go,we are planning for the middle of August.
Living only 35 miles from Glacier National Park we have seen and walked on glaciers many times and waterfalls galore. Yellowstone National Park is only 5 to 6 hours away from my home so we've also seen many gysers. So, I'm still debating if there is anything "different" to see besides local culture and food.

John - I don't know the area that you live in, but of course one of the main reasons for going to Iceland is to see glaciers, geysers and waterfalls. The volcanic scenery is probably different from what you have locally but that may not be enough to attract you.

The culture is mainly Viking, which might interest you, and being a island, it has certain aspects which are unique - we loved the bird-cliffs of the western fjords for example, and the wonderful boat trip where we saw a pod of orcas - but I definitely wouldn't go there for the food. Other people here have disagreed with me on that but we found it expensive and not terribly good.

A geyser is a geyser and a glacier looks like any other glacier.
Like a church looks like a church and all women are alike.
No need to go to Iceland.
Besides who knows, maybe they are like everyone and don't say 'hello' 'thanks' 'any advice appreciated'.
Really nothing to excited about.
