tcreath,
Sorry for your troubles! Yes, you really deserve a new bank!!
I once had an account at BB&T and closed it after bad service. I was in Switzerland, and my debit card just stopped working. I called the bank three times from Switzerland, and they wouldn't/couldn't do anything to help.
They just don't seem to know how to deal with international events --

I just thought I would give an update. I went back to BB&T yesterday afternoon but I chose a different branch. This proved to be a good idea because I was able to get the wire transfer done. I came equipped with a printout of the wikipedia information on IBANs but I didn't need it because the bank relations agent I worked with actually knew how to do an international bank wire unlike the other agent I worked with. It's finally done and now I can move on.
Thank you all for your advice!

That's great . .
Now, you need to go back to the first branch and have a <i>'word'</i> w/ the manager.
Making you jump through these hoops simply because a teller didn't know his/her way around an international transfer is really unacceptable customer service. If I was the manager I'd want to know about it (Unless of course it WAS the manager who screwed up )
