Torre del Orso is a beach near Lecce in Melendugno. I thought it was the stuff of dreams. We looked at a hotel or two and could not find anything charming, but I would urge you to check it out if you like beaches....

Probably be best to stay in Upper Town Matera if you have issues with walking..both areas are delightful but you might do best with restaurants away from the heart of the tourist zone. I loved Matera.....and the entire region.
