Seat reservations on OBB Austrian, Deutschebahn trains
I’ve been able to make a reservation on an OBB train from Vienna to Prague in June, but saw NO place to reserve a seat. I got a 1st class seat on the Sparschiene Comfort class. I’m trying to call them on 011-43-5-1717 (the support number on the ticket and website) and keep getting a busy signal.
When I read on Seat 61, it said that you can reserve a seat; I also saw on the Austrian website that seats can be reserved “on domestic routes”. Is it possible to reserve Vienna-Prague, and if so, is there some way online?
I’d also like to change the seat on the Munich-Vienna route, calling DBahn on 011-49-30-2970. Just asking if there’s another number, or I’m dialing incorrectly.
Thank you so much for any help you can give!

It's probably waaaay too early to book those seats. That route is served by direct trains every 2hrs all day, every day and isn't going to fill up. To see if it's too early try to do a dummy booking for 1mo from now, 2mo, etc....

Hi I wan2go, hope you are well. I think for the Munich to Vienna leg you have the wrong phone number - it's the international number you want:
https://www.bahn.com/en/contact - check it out on this link here.
If they are not answering I don't know the reason, but raising airlines on the phone is devilishly hard right now, not sure if there are parallels. Make sure you have the right time of day to call.

Thank you both j62 and Lavenula! I already have reservations on both legs - they did in fact open up already.
I do have seat reservations on the Munich-Vienna leg. I was hoping to get different seats and call DB last week; got transferred to an agent but had to hang up after 30+ minutes on hold. Might try again, thanks for the link.
because I have have seat reservations on that leg I feel better about that journey.
I have train reservations for the second leg, Vienna- Prague - but no SEAT reservation. I don’t want to end up standing for four hours…so if anyone has any experience with a way to do that online or a phone number - or can tell me that it’s not necessary to have a specific seat - then I’d really appreciate it!
Thank you!

For future reference, the seat reservations on OBB from Vienna to Prague opened up about three months prior to the journey, and I was able to get a seat reservation. First, you purchase the tickets. Then, after the three month window opens, you go to this page and book the seats (there’s a dropdown menu that lists “seats”). https://www.oebb.at/en/reiseplanung-...rung-sitzplatz
Hope that helps!

How does this work??
If anyone is still following this thread I need help! We bought Sparscheine 1st class tickets one way Vienna > Zurich (direct train) but don’t have seat reservations. Every article and thread I’ve read says you can add a seat reservation after you’ve purchased tickets, but every avenue I follow in the OBB site (and app) doesn’t show any options to add seats. When I choose the “seat only” option it shows our train and then “No tickets available” next to it. Does this mean there are no seats to reserve??
WHERE / HOW does one do this?? Help!!

To clarify we’re traveling on December 20, 2023 and I’m trying to upgrade (and reserve seats) from 1st class to Business class. I’ve read the full thread and tried the links but still getting the same result which is basically a loop to nowhere with zero options to view or reserve seats. What am I missing here?

Perhaps the reservations window has not opened yet for that particular route? About 2 weeks ago I made seat reservations/upgraded from 1st class to Business on my Vienna to Prague trip departing on December 4.
When it was too early to make seat reservations, the site would give me the "ticket not available" message. To determine when the window opened up I kept moving the calendar backwards until I reached a date that gave me seat reservation options and then counted forwards to my departure date how many days to wait until I could make my reservations.
