seat reservation in italian train

I purchased a vacation package with e-vacations last month but did not make any seat reservation on the eurostar from Rome to Florence ( the package include air, hotel and rail). Now that I know my itinerary better, I would like to make seat reservations. Which is the least expensive way of doing this? Should I book thru e-vacations which is charging $ 15 /person, rail europe?? Pls help.. thanks in advance

The cheapest way would be to get the seat reservation once you arrive in Italy, either at the train station or a travel agent. Cost is about 3 euro per person, per seat reservation.
Kay

E-vacations is operated by RailEurope. That figures why they're charging you more than if you went to the train station directly. Take Kay's advice.

We arrive in Rome on Jan 1st and leave Florence on the 5th. Will we have problems reserving seats at this time? Thanks again.

Trains will be busy after the New Year holiday, but there are lots of trains between Roma and Firenze ("Florence&quot, so you should be OK if you can be flexible about which time you travel. You can check schedules on www.trenitalia.com.

Marie,

As you'll be traveling around holiday season, I'd suggest that you buy your seat reservations as soon as you get to Rome. They can be obtained either at the train station or thru a travel agency. You shouldn't have any difficulties getting them a few days before your departure on the 5th.

Make those reservations but remember the following..you still have to laod and unload your own luggage so make it small and be prepared for otherpeople from complete opposite ends of the globe to hold reservations for your very same seat. This happened to us and thankfully after some mashing about we settled into other seats. It had something to do with the best laid plans, the kindness of strangers and pure luck.

And don't be afraid to ask for YOUR seat. It often happens that someone else will be in your seat, so you will take the one next to it, which will be someone else's seat, and so on. So when you're sure that you hold a reservation for that seat, ask that the person find their own seat, so the musical chairs game can end
