Here's what I did:
First I searched on "maitre" in the France section...got old results. I took off the France and did a general search...got recent posts.
I clicked on the top title on the left to open it. Opened my "find on this page", entered "maitre". When I clicked "Next" the highlights were all in the left column (titles).
I then highlighted the top sentence in the thread itself. Clicked to find the next example of "maitre". Highlights went back over to the titles. It didn't find the word in the thread----though it was there, just a few posts down.

Hello all---
We have been making small tweaks/improvements to the search, but the more comprehensive upgrade that I mentioned a few weeks ago is not reflected as a part of this relaunch. That's still in the works.
I'll take a closer look at your particular search questions. Was there a particular post you were looking for?

I don't know if you were addressing me. If so, I was merely testing the search function after I saw the new layout. I simply used the name of a hotel which I knew had been discussed recently ("maitre"
.
As I noted above, the search did seem to find the most recent posts. It was the "find" within the "search" that I had a problem with (is that clear?).

Thanks, ira. The "Control + F" function does work to highlight a desired word, though it only does so one at a time. Then, you have to click "Find Next" to see the next post with that word, and so on. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. This is certainly better than nothing at all but not as convenient as having ALL matching posts highlighted up front. Many search engines do this.
Robespierre, I agree with the desirability, in most cases, of matching POSTS instead of THREADS.
Finally, thanks Katie H for your efforts to improve this forum. Much appreciated!

Nole:
Your post led me to research how one can highlight a search term on the same page one if viewing.
I found it on the Google Toolbar.

While viewing this page I just searched for the word "search". Every instance of that word is now highlighted on my screen.
Cool.
