<<The old "legal tender" chestnut. Bank of England notes are not legal tender in Scotland nor are any notes. >>

Yeah, thanks for the criticism even though I explicitly said "The only official UK currency etched on paper (or whatever slim and foldable medium - US money is cotton, Aussie money is plastic) is Bank of England banknotes and that's true only for England and Wales."

Yawn.

Doesn't look like moo will be coming back to say what they did, or any of the answers were helpful
Same with their other thread.

Ahhh Haaaa! I am back with a reply. I emailed my banker (Chicago Suburbs)from Budapest (the city in which I was supposed to pay for the rental apartment)to inquire about exchanging the Scottish notes back in the US. I figured somewhere in Chicago there would be a bank that would exchange them. My local bank was able to buy them back from me using a banking network.

There was a fee (of course!) but at least I was able to sell them back. My bank doesn't sell Scottish pounds as a regular service of the bank but they were able to send them off to another facility to make the transaction.

As for the payment of the apartment, I was able to pay about a third in British Pounds that I had on hand and had to go to a local ATM to pull out Hungarian Forints for the rest of the payment. Owner was not so happy with the local currency but did accept them.

So all of you folks in Scotland -- exchange those Scottish Pounds for British Pounds IMMEDIATELY! Thanks for all of your replies.

Or just plan on going back to Scotland soon, which we're planning to do.
