Scotland Weather

Janis or Sheila, what's the weather been like there. I've been checking the weather on Yahoo and they show it's been raining for over 2 weeks and no sun in sight. We arrive next Saturday morning (May 23) and hoping to catch a dry day during our 3 weeks there.

We've been there 3 years ago... A good, large size umbrella is your best friend. Don't leave home without it.

Karen:
We returned yesterday from 10 days in North Wales and Edinburgh and Glasgow.
We also toured The Highlands and cruised Loch Ness. The weather was cool. Jackets and sweaters. Some rain, but mostly sunny. Windy in Scotland.
Carry your umbrella. When it did rain, it didn't last long. Maybe an hour or two. Then the sun would come out.
We really enjoyed the visit and the weather.

Hard to be of much help. You really have to take any UK weather report/forecast with a grain of salt. It may show heavy rain over a wide area, when in fact it is only scattered heavy showers. Whatever is forecast - remember three miles distant may be entirely different - and both places will likely change during the day.

I have been to London where the forecast shows heavy reain all day and not seen anything but fluffy clouds. And the opposite can also be true.

And with the effects of the various sea currents, etc., weather in parts of Scotland can be even more changeable than in the south.

So just be prepared for warm/cool, wet/dry, and have a FABULOUS time!

It's p******g down this morning. As the weather man said on the radio he thinks May is spelt A-P-R-I-L this year.

However, to cheer you up, I have some of the best weather of the year the last week in May- lying on deserted island beaches, watching the skylarks.

You could be very lucky.

And remember- layer!!!

Thanks everybody for your replies. Yahoo is now showing sun on May 24th, the day we arrive. Will pack umbrellas and raincoats just in case. The packing has begun. Getting excited!
Scotland or bust!

In Edinburgh, it's switched between p***ing rain and beautiful sun all day like it can't make up it's mind what on earth it wants to do! That said, by next Saturday it could be sunny again, and warm. As a pointer, I moved back here from London in January and this is the wettest week we've had since then.

Hi Karen....

I just got back from spending a week in Aberfeldy, Scotland and though we had miserable weather (for the first time in all the years I've been traveling to the UK)...cold & rainy except for one day...it did not stop us from doing or enjoying anything. One thing though, I always bring my umbrella, but it was so windy, that it wasn't worth it...just used my hood and that was fine!! Have a great time!!!!
