Scotland Lodging

My husband, two sons (16 and 20) and I will be visiting Scotland for the first time in May for 12 days. After reading the many helpful posts on this board, I have tentatively decided on the following itinerary:
Edinburg 2 Days
Braemar Areas 2 Days
Nairn/Elgin area 2 Days
Skye 3 Days
Oban area 2 Days
Glasgow 1 day for flight home

I would love some recommendations for lodging in each of these areas. Since we will need two rooms each night, it is becoming increasingly apparent that I need some inside help with finding the best value for the lowest cost. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

The trip to Skye is the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen. It truly looks like a 3-D childrens book. Cliffs come out of nowhere. On Skye bring clothes for all seasons because you'll need them. You'll experience all seasons in one day once you hit the highlands. Enjoy.

Can you give me a budget or an idea of the sort of place you want to stay, please?

Yes - what sort of budget and do you prefer B&Bs or hotels or even apartments.

Also you may not have to get two room everywhere. Many B&Bs have family rooms which often have a double and two twin beds. Now you may prefer to get two rooms - but family rooms are certainly an option in a lot of places.

Judging from your itinerary, I think our trip report from this past summer would be helpful. Please use the Search function and look for "12 spectacular days in sometimes sunny Scotland," posted by Ms_Go and myself.

Enjoy!

Shelia and Janis,

Sorry I have not replied sooner. I have been a bit under the weather. I would like to stay around $200 per night for the four of us. I prefer small inns but B&B's will do also.

I'd try the Inver Hotel at Crathie or the Callater Lodge at Braemar.

I don't really have a suggestion for Nairn Elgin. The nearest place I like (in the price bracket) is the Spey Bay.

You might like to look at the Flodigarry on Skye. I can't find rates for the Sligachan, but it's nicely located. Or the Rosedale's on the harbour in Portree.

Oban? I don't like staying in the town. Try the Cuilfail at Kilmelford.

Glasgow I'm hopeless at.

VickieB,

Here is a link to a thread on budget hotels in Glasgow;

http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34472711

Most of the places mentioned on the thread are what I believe are termed "cookie cutters" in the US, but I'm sure they would be fine for one night & might meet your budget requirements. Post back if you want any further info.
