Scotland Itinerary help

Hi, I'm travelling to Scotland in a few weeks with my husband and in-laws. I've been to Scotland before, but they have not. I'm trying to figure out a good itinerary. Here's what I have so far...

Day 1: arrive in Edinburgh, overnight there
Day 2: explore Edinburgh, overnight there
Day 3: drive to St. Andrews along the Fife Coast, overnight there
Day 4: play St. Andrews, overnight there
Day 5: ?? thought about driving to Inverness so the family can see Loch Ness the next day
Day 6: see Loch Ness and drive to Fort William, overnight there
Day 7: explore Glencoe and drive back to Edinburgh
Day 8: fly from Edinburgh to Dublin

I don't care to see Inverness or Loch Ness again and my family really doesn't care either. I'd rather spend some time in another part of the Highlands. I really enjoyed Glencoe. Any suggestions? We would be driving to wherever anyone suggests from St. Andrews on Day 5.

Thanks for any help!

Anne

Forget Inverness, Loch Ness and Fort William.Try Skye or Oban.If you liked Glencoe you will like the journey.

Play St Andrews? Do you mean the Old Course? If so, have you booked ahead? If not, this may be a tall order.

zippo or anyone...

What would be the driving route from St. Andrews to Skye or Oban? I would only have Days 5, 6 and 7 to get there and explore. Also on Day 7, we have to drive back to Edinburgh for our flight the next day to Dublin.

Thanks!

Hi. If you're not fussed about Loch Ness, and still want to fit in all the other stuff, I suggest you 1) spend one night in St Andrews and not 2; 2) go to Fortingall for the 4th night- it will take about 2, maybe 2 1/2 hours. Then spend a couple of days seeing Glen Lyon, Loch Tay, Pitlochry, Loch Tummel and round about, then head due west into Glencoe to finish off your trip by driving south through Kilmartin to Lochgilphead, Inverary, Loch Lomond and Glasgow and fly to Dublin from Glasgow

I guess you could "try" for the Old Course...but if there on a Sunday it is closed and you can walk it (or part of it). The NEW Course is only "100 yrs old" , is beautiful and similar and a lot easier to get on. Late in the day in summer it's gorgeous, our son found out.
And there are 3 or 4 other courses in St. Andrews. ]
All of Scotland is gorgeous and lovely, and the small towns are particularly nice. Perth, Dunkeld (a gorgeous hilly golf course there), Stirling, Callendar, Oban, Isle of Mull,(on a 45 min. ferry ride from Oban),. Places East of Inverness are also nice,....
Isle of Skye is nice IF you have time!

Though a pretty area, Loch Ness is NOT really too exciting (some think), as well as Ft. William.
Glencoe is lovely, and nice for hiking!
