We spend our last night in Glasgow on our tour of Scotland this month but are booked to fly out of Edinburgh on BritAir to Gatwick. How long a drive from Glasgow to Edinburgh's airport? We know we have to leave early but don't want to cut it too close. TKs!!!

WHERE in Glasgow are you leaving from? It is a very large city. From Glasgow airport to Edinburgh airport is only about 50 miles - motorway all the way. But if you have to drive through Glasgow city traffic - especially during rush hours you'd need to add a lot of time.

Last week Saturday we made the (reverse)trek by train from Edinburgh Waverly train station to Glasgow Queen Street station in less than 1 hour. The exact time will depend on the train/number of stops you take. Cost was nominal - less than 10GBP per person. I don't know the time/cost to cab or bus to the airport in Edinburgh from the train station. We were quoted 140GBP for a taxi from our Edinburgh hotel to the Glasgow airport and assume that the reverse cost would be similar. Have fun.

To answer your question - an hour and a half, outside rush hour. You can catch a train from Glasgow Queen St. to Edinburgh Waverley (45 minutes) and then catch the airport bus to the airport (45 minutes).This bus used to leave from the station, but it is a while since I lived in Edinburgh so it may have changed now. Hence, I would allow 3 hours for this way.

Have you tried amending your booking with BA to fly from Glasgow to Gatwick - there are six flights per day. It seems a bit of a waste of time trailing over to Edinburgh.

If you're travelling by car then the time taken will depend on your starting point in Glasgow. If you're travelling from south of the River Clyde over the Kingston Bridge on the M8 motorway then the rush hour begins around 7.30am and lasts up to 9.30. If you can avoid this and join the motorway on the north side of the river you shouldn't have too much of a problem. Once on the motorway the journey will take around 45 - 60 minutes - the good news is that Edinburgh airport is west of the city and the M8 takes you virtually all the way there. Just follow the signs when you get close to Edinburgh

Thanks for all the info. We are unable to fly out of Glasgow because the flights are full and land at Heathrow. Our direct flight goes from Gatwick.We will be staying in city center but leaving at 6:30am sounds as if an hour is a good time allotment. Thanks for your responses.
