I think it depends on what your interests are, and I guess your age too. We found Stockholm by far the most interesting of the three cities . . . would go back there in a heartbeat. But we're in our 60s . . .Maybe do a little guidebook reading and see what turns you on, then make your choices!

I agree - I think Stockholm has the most to do in terms of culture, museums, history etc with Copenhagen next and oslo last (I love Oslo but there is less to do in the city). If you're looking for outdoor stuff - sports or boating - the choice might change.
Hope this helps.

I would do it 4-3-4. While in Copenhagen, try to take some side trips outside of the city to the Roskilde Cathedral, the Kronborg Slot in Helsingør (Hamlet's castle) and the Frederiksborg Slot in Hillerød. All are easily reachable by commuter rail.

It would be a shame visiting Norway and stop at Oslo. You should try and make it to Bergen and the Western fjords. Instead of taking the train directly to Bergen, theres a train-ferry-bus-train combo that takes you to Bergen in a day, called Norway in a nutshell. You get to visit a grand waterfall, go by boat into a narrow fjord and drive a serpentine road before continuing to Bergen. Stay the night in Bergen before returning to Oslo afternoon next day or even stay 2 nights in Bergen.
I would do Stockholm 4 days including an afternoon journey to Oslo the last day - Oslo 1 day - Nutshell journey to Bergen 1 day - Bergen 1 day - back to Oslo. Train to Copenhagen 1 day. Copenhagen 3 days.
In Stockholm maybe 1 day: Old town, 1 day: the archipelago, 1 day: Wasa ship and Skansen.
Oslo, visit Vigeland park, the Viking ships, City hall and stroll down Karl Johan Main Street.
Bergen, visit the fish market. Buy a bag of prawns, some bread and make a picnic. Take the funicular to the hilltop for a view of Bergen.
Copenhagen: Tivoli, Nyhavn, Little mermaid and the Castle. Use 1 day to visit Fredriksborg Castle outside of town.

One more suggestion to maximise your fjord-experience would be doing the Nutshell journey going to Bergen and leaving Bergen by an early catamaran to Flom before continuing by rail to Oslo. All depending on budget. If having to choose by the two, stick with the original Nutshell journey.

I used to live in Sweden. I really loved Stockholm also, but Gothenburg in the summer is most fabulous. It is the big dilemma in Sweden, which city is best? Stockholm vs. Gothenburg. I agree with Helen though, about going to Bergen. The fish market is great! Bergen is a lovely city. Copenhagen is also a blast. Lots to do there. I'd almost skip over Olso or shorten the stay there. Personal pref. though.
